The Rich Miser

The Rich Miser

Piggyben was rich,
but…a miser.
One day,
he saw a boy eating an apple pie…..
Umm…tasty!
Apple pies ! If I wanted one,
so would my wife,
my children, and my servants !
It would cost me a fortune.
But he wanted one so much,
his legs shivered…
His wife asked,
What’s wrong, my dear?
Piggyben kept his mouth closed.
His face grew red,
then purple
He cried out,
I want an apple pie.
That’s no problem. We can make apple pies
for the “whole “ town!
You’ll make a poor of me!
Then, I’ll make pies for us and the servants.
The servants?
Why ?
How about some for us and the children?
The children?
Why?
Maybe one for you and one for me?
For you?
Why?
Mingy Piggyben!
Stingy Piggyben!
Now, all this was seen by the God of Heaven.
What a miser!
The God made himself look just like Piggyben.
He told the servants,
Invite everyone in town. Come share my gold!
Can this be true?
Piggyben will share his gold!
Take what you will!
But, if anyone who looks like me tries to stop you,
drive him away.
Thank you Lord Piggyben!
The kindest man alive!
Just then, the real Piggyben came home.
Robbers! Thieves! Put that back!
That’s the deceiver. Drive him away.
Be off with you!
But, my darling! My children!
Piggyben was pushed out of his house
People cursed him,
the dogs chased after him,
the crows hovered above him,
the thunder grumbled
and it rained heavily on him.
He was cold, hungry, and lonely.
He realized how mean he had been.
Piggyben rushed back and called out,
Piggyben is not mingy. Piggyben is not stingy.
Piggyben will learn to share.
At that, the God changed back to his own shape.
Marvelous ! I’m not Piggyben
but the God of heaven.
Piggyben, will you stop being such a miser?
Well . . . maybe I could be a little more generous.
A little more?
Well . . . maybe a little more than a little more.
Great! Let’s make apples pies for the entire town!
All right!
Thank you Lord Piggyben.
The kindest man alive!
You make our day!
